Sick Day Morning Routine + Essentials

Happy  Monday! It is a new week - another seven days to live our very best lives. Let's conquer it!

I am finally feeling better after what I think was just a really bad cold. I'm still crazy congested, but I'm not feeling too sick, which is good. For about a week, I was coughing and congested and then for four more days I was hit with.. well, I don't know. I'm assuming just a bad cold, but I pretty much stayed in bed and watched lots of Netflix because I couldn't sleep well. That was the first time in probably years that I have actually rested when I've been sick.

I try and avoid medicine was much as I can. I get that it is necessary for some things, but if I can just deal with something or find a natural way to find relief, that is my first choice. I wanted to share what I do when I'm sick and I'm trying to fight it... pretty much my sick day morning routine and essentials. Maybe these tips will help you!

I think that the worst part of the day when you're sick is first thing in the morning when you wake up. When I first wake up is when I feel the absolute worst. Is that the same for you?

Just like every morning, I get up and I'll brush my teeth and wash my face. Doing that already makes me feel a little better.

I head to the kitchen and make myself a cup of green tea. I've been using the Yogi Green Tea Super Antioxidant. Green tea has a lot of antioxidants and helps reduce free radicals. I add honey and lemon and to be honest... at night I'll add just a tiny bit of whiskey. I find that combo helps me sleep and honestly, it is a very small amount (less than a shot). My Papa (grandfather) used to do that, so I tried it one day. It also just tastes really good.

I also drink a packet of Emergen-C. This stuff has so many vitamins and it is really easy to drink. I drink that while I make my tea. I also get a big cup and fill it up with ice water. I drink tons of ice water because it helps relieve my throat when I'm coughing like crazy and it is also really important to stay hydrated when you're sick. I also take my daily cod liver oil and butter oil capsule. I also take a vitamin D and vitamin C capsule for a little extra boost.

I grab my glass of water and tea and head back to my room. I make my bed, because even when I'm not feeling too great, I like to have some part of my life put together. I still cover up with either a throw blanket or under my covers.

Before I get back into bed though, I grab some coconut oil and peppermint oil. I mix a small amount together and rub it on my chest and under my nose. It helps with my congestion and cough.

That's pretty much what I do every morning when I'm sick. Oh, and I watch a lot of Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and Freeform. I'll read, too!

I mentioned earlier that I've been loving Yogi's green tea. If you drink tea when you're sick or at all, what are some of your favorites? I'm trying to drink more tea, so leave your favorites in a comment!

Amanda
