Midnight Snacks That Won't Ruin Your Diet

I just want to share this photo from my desk at work. I have an office, you guys. And a job. I am so happy.

It is finally FRIDAY! I am not really doing anything this weekend, but tonight I'm meeting up with my friend Ylda after work for dinner, drinks, and a movie! I love a good girls night.

I don't know why, but lately I have found myself waking up at like midnight with my stomach growling. I try not to eat after 8 p.m., but sometimes, I just can't ignore my stomach when it is telling me that it wants food.

In college, I was definitely guilty of whipping up a midnight snack that was probably just another meal or driving to Cook Out or Fellini's to get a bite to eat. I have recently started eating healthier and more plant-based and also working out, so no more late-night food runs on the reg for me.

The past few months, I have definitely made healthier choices in my late night snacks. I don't have a snack every night, but like I said... sometimes, you can't ignore your stomach. Here are some of my favorite midnight snacks that won't ruin your diet.

1. A bowl of cereal
I'm not saying grab Cocoa Pebbles, Lucky Charms, or Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Choose a cereal that is low on the sugar and high in fiber. When a eat a bowl of cereal late at night, it reminds me of when I was a little girl. I would spend the weekends with my dad and he and I would always have a bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats with a half a banana before bed.

2. Cheese and crackers
I love cheese. It is definitely one of the best things of earth. I love an ounce of cheddar cheese with some whole wheat crackers.

3. Avocado toast
I was eating avocado toast before it was cool. It is probably one of the most filling food to eat ever. I eat avocado toast for breakfast a lot, but it also makes a really good snack.

4. Hard-boiled egg
I keep a few hard-boiled eggs on hand so I can grab them and eat them whenever. I love eggs, so this is one of my favorite snacks to have when my stomach is begging for food at midnight.

5. Banana with peanut butter
I love cutting up a banana and eating it with cinnamon. So good! Sometimes, I need a little peanut butter, too. This is a super simple, but yummy snack.

6. Fruit and nuts
Another filling option! This is good especially when I have a bit of a sweet tooth. I'll grab a small handful of mixed nuts and have that with some grapes or strawberries. If I really need something sweet, I'll add a few dark chocolate chips to the nuts.

7. Popcorn
As much as I love good movie theater butter popcorn, that is not the popcorn I'm talking about. Pop some popcorn with an airpopper. This is really low-cal and still good. You might miss the extra butter, but it does the job.

I'm no health expert, but these snacks really have helped me kick cravings and maintain my healthy eating over the past few months.

As much as being healthy is great, sometimes I need a cheat day. I think my favorite unhealthy snack is... french fries. I love fries. What about you? Comment!!

Have a happy and safe weekend, ladies!!

Amanda
