Take Care of Yourself: 6 Self-Care Tips

Thursday! The weekend is so close I can almost taste it. Okay, not really, but you've heard that expression, right?

Real talk for a second... my life is going pretty well. Nothing is perfect, but I'm happy, healthy, and love my job. My relationship is great. My friendships are great. My family is healthy. Even with all the blessings in my life, we all know life isn't perfect. There have been a couple things that have been stressful and I have anxiety which definitely adds to how stressed and anxious I get.

Here are a few things that have really caused a little extra stress on me in the past couple weeks.

About two weeks ago, my car decided to have some serious problems. It is a 20-year-old car, so I know a new one is going to be needed soon.  I don't really have a whole lot of extra money to just get another car right now. My dad is really good with cars and has been working on it. I'm so thankful that he has allowed me to borrow one of his for the time being.

Finances are always almost constantly something I worry about.

Another thing.. for as long as I can remember... confidence and self esteem. I have my up and down days. Working out and eating healthy has definitely helped a bit, but I still struggle some days. I think this is an issue that most girls face.

Self-care is really important. Making sure that you are doing okay is a priority. I've learned over the past few years that it is okay to put myself first. When my anxiety really started to take a toll on me in college, I had to learn how to cope with it. I also had to figure out how to deal with everyday stress in my life rather than let it build up. I have really bad days. Don't we all? These are a few ways that I have learned how to cope with anxiety and stress. You've got to take care of yourself.

1. Find A Hobby
Find something that you enjoy. I definitely consider this blog and brand a hobby. Something that I've been getting into recently is sewing. My grandma and I used to sew together. She's really good and I'm definitely a beginner, but it's been fun. Sewing Machines has been a really great resource for me and my new hobby. A big thanks to them for sponsoring this post, btw! They've got everything you need for any DIY sewing project and they're based out of Atlanta, which is a huge plus for me and I'm trying to be more proactive about shopping local.

2. Trust A Friend
These two girls pictures above are my best friends. They are my girls. I am so thankful and fortunate to have a really great group of friends that I know I can go to for anything and not once be judged. I didn't have a really close friends until college, but I am so thankful for them every single day. Find a friend or two that you can go to for anything without any judgment and that will always support you. Having someone to talk to helps take some of the burden of life off of your shoulders. These girls are just two of a few girls in my life that I can go to for anything at anytime no matter what. Thankfully, my boyfriend is also that kind of person for me. Having the support of others in your life is one of the best things.

3. Be Still
For me, being still means just taking a quiet moment and finding some peace. Meditate, pray, control your breathing, or do whatever you need to be still and just take a few moments to regroup.

4. Be Good To Your Body
I'm in no way in great shape and I definitely have weight that I'm working on losing, but I've learned that working out and eating healthy makes me feel so much better about myself. Fueling my body with good food, rather than junk is beneficial on so many levels. Even getting some extra rest can help. When I am eating right, well-rested, and working out, my stress and anxiety levels are definitely lower.

5. Allow Yourself To Feel
Allow yourself to be angry, sad, upset, down. Whatever you are feeling, allow yourself to feel it. It is okay to be angry. It is okay to be sad. If you need to cry, do it. Feel whatever you need to feel and then be still and regroup.

6. Be You
You are enough. You are worthy. Seriously. Tell yourself this until you believe it.

What are other ways you cope with stress and practice self-care? Remember that if you can't seem to shake some of these negative feelings, reaching out to a professional is an important step.

Even when life gets tough, remember that people care. You're enough and worthy. Need someone to talk to? I'm always down to talk.

Amanda
