How I Stay Healthy At Work

If you’re new, as I’m sure you can tell, my name is Amanda and I am absolutely thrilled that you’ve stumbled upon my little corner of the internet. Welcome to the fam!
If you don’t know, I just finished up college a couple of months ago and made my way into the workforce! I work for iHeartMedia in digital content, on-air, and programming just to name a few of the many things I get to do!

I spend a lot of time at a desk or in the studio. A lot of time with my mouth close to a mic that has been used by several others. A lot of time interacting with people.
With that said, I’m always trying to do what I can to make sure that I stay healthy while at work. I’m sure you can relate! I want to be sure to stick to my fitness goals at work, but I also want to make sure that I’m eating well and doing what I can to not get sick!
Here are a couple of ways that I stay healthy while at work.
To keep from getting sick...
I make sure that my hands are washed and I keep hand sanitizer on my desk for times when I just need something super quick! I also make sure to keep my work space clean and tidy. I use sanitizing wipes to wipe everything down and keep germs to a minimum.
To make sure that I’m fueling my body with healthy foods...
I opt-out of going out for lunch or having food delivered to the station. I bring my lunch every day and make sure that it has a good balance of carbs, protein, and healthy fat. I stick to lunches that are least half veggies! I’ve been using the app LifeSum to track what I’m eating. I love that it focuses on carbs, protein, and fat along with calories for the day. The app also rates your meals and has really helped me develop healthy eating habits!
I also opt-out of the cake, doughnuts, and other sweet treats that my coworkers will bring in sometimes. I am totally a supporter of not limiting yourself, but I know for me… that one turns into more.
I also drink lots of water! I bring a water bottle with me and fill it up throughout the day. I love water and it is so important to stay hydrated! If you find yourself hungry in the middle of your day, be sure to keep healthy snacks around!
To manage stress...
I be sure to plan accordingly! I make sure to give myself a plan for working on projects and try and finish things before the deadline in case something needs to be changed. Sometimes, things slip through the cracks, so there are stressful days, but having a plan in place does help and allows me to sometimes move other projects around in an emergency. If all else fails, I remember to breathe and just get right to it. Don’t be afraid to walk outside and get some fresh air during stressful days. Those days happen! Use your days off to make sure you’re doing something to relieve stress!
To stay as active as possible...
I be sure to get up and walk around at least once every hour. Just a couple minutes is better than nothing. I also stand as often as possible. If you have a long enough lunch break, use some of that time to walk around the parking lot or something. Taking a break to do something as simple as stretch is also really beneficial!
